Travelling for free from Delhi to popular tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh

Well, one can reach places by hitchhiking. Did you know this?

They say, by tradition when one solicits a ride by standing on the edge of the road, from the traffic moving by making a gesture like- one's thumb extended/upwards, it's called hitchhiking.

This reminds me of the hitchhiking technique shown in Pooja Bhatt and Aamir Khan starrer " Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin" in the year 1991. I won't recommend Pooja Bhat style of hitchhiking.

😄 This was some fun intended!

Hitchhiking from Delhi to Manali or any tourist destination in Himachal is not all that difficult. The best part of this route is the heavy traffic on this route. The route, at least, up to Chandigarh is flooded with many options from cars, tempos, lorries, tractors etc. One might face problems beyond Chandigarh.

Here are some of the hitchhikers audio-visuals to get inspired from-

1st -Shubham Kumar,a young boy from a normal background, who visited 18 countries in a span of just 2 years. His story is inspiring.

2nd - Dr. Varum Vagish, is an ex-journalist, Radio Newsreader & academician and holds Ph.D. in Mass Communication. He has been exploring the world for 15 years. Now, he is a full-time traveler/Vlogger. He has traveled Thailand in just Rs 6000/- and Malaysia in Rs 3000/- He believes that hitchhiking does save money and enables you to travel more.

3rd - I have linked the hitchhiking trip of a YouTuber Vanisha(Verily Vagabonding), Travel Vlogger and storyteller. I wanted to bring forth her adventure to show that even females do hitchhiking and she says- "It's all goodness around."

Why don't you read these experiences before deciding to travel for free-

Story 1 This is an account of Escapeteddy's experience on travelling from Chandigarh to Manali for free.

Story 2- The hitchhiking trip of Disha Kapkoti through Spiti is an elaborate experience. How she met two boys Milan,Sankar & a Japanese female traveller Yuki during her journey who became her travelmates.

Story 3 - It's about the adventure of Nidhi Khurana on the roads of Himachal to Bir, Palampur.

I am sure, there are many more successful stories out there to learn from and follow the instinct.

More about hitchhiking

# Let's be positive and assume that the world is full of good people, if not all-majority of them. That's what most of the hitchhikers have narrated in their stories.

# However, the rule is - Safety first & No Shortcuts!

# The good thing is that you can meet lots of people on your journey and make new friends. In the process, you might learn new languages, and improve upon your conversational skills.

# Be prepared to walk - walk all day sometimes. Do carry a hat, a flashlight, a pocket knife, sunscreen, and a power pack for your mobile phone charging.

Staying Safe

# Note the vehicle registration,  its make, model, and color before you take a ride. Text this immediately to your family & friends.

# Sit in the front passenger seat, if possible because rear doors have child locks on them and they can't be opened from inside.

# Wear your valuables(wallet, ID, Credit/debit cards) under your clothes, not to keep them in your backpack.

I am sure, having read these inspring stories you must have also decided to venture out. Go for it, becuase this is what you are going to like about yourself in the later part of your life.

Daafi House - An Offbeat Place to Stay close to Shimla

Realizing the fact that Shimla is already crowded, Hotels & Resorts are finding more hills around Shimla to house their hospitality projects. This idea is sure to get the tourists flooded in these areas. One such place is Theog which is now known as a mountain village, chosen by Taj for their premier property. Now Club Mahindra has also found a place near Taj. I was close to the Taj location for one of our project-setting-up when I encountered this property which is my prime focus in this article. The property signboard read - Daafi. The Architecture was captivating & could not resist requesting the manager to allow me to go around and take pictures. The property has Vernacular Architecture looks- high stone walls and lined with wooden spars. I even noticed the spars extruding out of walls to provide the real Vernacular Architecture looks. Kudos to the Architect & Owner, who hail from Himachal itself,  for finalizing such a design. More than the architect it's the owner

Drive from Shimla to Rampur Bushehar

I always feel the traveler has to be whimsical. The moment thought comes to your mind, pick up your vehicle, gather companions, and get-set-go !! My family demanded an outing, and I thought let's go for a drive. While taking the car out from the parking lot, I asked my wife," Which way, right or left ?".Well, we headed towards a left-way to Kufri, Narkanda, Rampur, Sarahan. The destination set was Sarahan, Bhimakali temple. On the way, we passed through Kufri, Kaithu, Theog, Narkanda, Kumarsain.  Somewhere near Theog By the time we reached Kumarsain, it was late afternoon and we were famished. We didn't get any decent place en route. HP Tourism restaurant at Narkanda was blocked due to snowfall, and we didn't want to climb the curled knolls formed by the snow cutter.  Lucky us, we got " Happy Bhojnalya " near Kumasain. I could spot a ladder to reach the terrace of the restaurant. I decided to request the owner to set our lunch on the terrace which he agr
